The Advocates' hosts a series of educational and celebratory events each year.
Human Rights Awards Dinner - The Advocates' Annual Human Rights Awards Dinner honors individuals who have made significant contributions to the promotion of human rights and celebrates the work of volunteers whose efforts have made an impact on the support of human rights locally and internationally.
International Women's Day - The Advocates hosts an International Women's Day event each year to highlight advancements in women's rights and equality, to encourage further activism, and to educate participants about human rights issues that affect women and girls locally, nationally and internationally. Join us as we also celebrate the extraordinary diversity and strength of Minnesota women and work to promote increased understanding and tolerance in our community.
Asylum Conference - Each spring, The Advocates for Human Rights holds one of the premier asylum training conferences in the nation. Volunteer attorneys and more are welcome to join us for updates on the latest practice and case developments affecting asylum seekers.
Minnesota State Fair - Since 2005, The Advocates has hosted a booth at the Great Minnesota Get Together. Each year we educate the public on a pressing issue. Past topics have included torture, immigration, and economic and social rights.
Human Rights Law and Policy Conference - Since 2002, The Advocates for Human Rights has co-sponsored an annual day-long CLE conference on important human rights issues including refugee and indigenous people's rights, labor as a human right, and the right to education.
Women's Human Rights Film Series - Since 2004 and in partnership with The Friends of the Saint Paul Public Library, The Advocates has presented a Women's Human Rights Film Series. Documentaries on a wide range of women's rights issues are screened, followed by discussion hosted by The Advocates' staff and guests.
Lecture Series - The Advocates for Human Rights coordinates several lecture series. Guest lecturers and The Advocates' staff speak on human rights topics of interest to legal professionals as well as the general public. Lectures generally offer CLE credit, are usually held in downtown Minneapolis, and are free and open to the public. Please check back later for an updated list.
Book Club - The Advocates for Human Rights hosts a book club that focuses on great books with human rights themes. We hope that you can join us every other month for great conversation about books and human rights around the globe. Book discussions are brownbag lunches, generally held every other month on Fridays. Call 612-341-3302 for more information.
