Women Community Leaders Focus on Liberian Parents, Youth as School Resumes

On August 25, the New Liberian published an article by The Advocates' Laura Young on the Liberian Women's Roundtable, a group of women leaders from across the Twin Cities. The LWR is calling on Liberian parents to get involved in their children’s school success, as many Liberian youth are struggling to reach the highest possible levels of success in school.

On August 2, Minnesota Public Radio quoted Advocacy Director Michele Garnett McKenzie in a story about the the English-only ordinance that passed in Lino Lakes, MN. The city had received support in drafting and passing the legislation from ProEnglish - a group with ties to John Tanton. Tanton is the founder of FAIR, an organization that has been labeled a hate group by the Southern Poverty Law Center.
