Congratulations to pro bono attorneys Pam Abbate-Dattilo and Ted Koshiol with the support of consulting attorney Loan Huynh, summer associate Anu Skreekanth and attorney & interpreter Nicole Moen, all of Fredrikson & Byron, who recently received an affirmative asylum grant for a young woman from Togo. As a testament to the strength of the application and the representation, the officer issued the decision granting asylum within three weeks of the interview, a very short turn-around. The client came to the United States to seek asylum in order to avoid a forced marriage and FGM in Togo, both of which she opposed. The usually reserved client shouted with joy upon hearing the news that her asylum claim was granted and she would be allowed to stay in the United States indefinitely. We are grateful to the efforts of Pam, Ted and Loan on behalf of this client, as representation makes a tremendous difference for clients navigating the byzantine immigration system.
