Communications Internship

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

The Communications Intern will work with members of the Communications and Research, Education, and Advocacy teams to streamline and strengthen The Advocates' media outreach presence. The intern will assist in writing and managing The Advocates' social media posts, update and maintain website pages, conduct research on emerging technologies, and assist in the design of marketing and communications materials. The intern will also be particularly useful in assisting with website redevelopment as The Advocates examine their current website platform and work to refine their communications model.

 

Other tasks may include:

  • Create graphics for use on social or other digital media
  • Assist with event promotion
  • Assist in writing and content curation for monthly newsletter
  • Write press releases and news items
  • Assist with creation of general marketing and communications publications
  • Greet asylum clients and other visitors on rotation at the front desk
  • Assist with all-hands-on-deck activities including mailings and events; and
  • Other duties as assigned.

Experience and Qualifications Required:

  • Strong computer skills
  • Excellent written communication skills
  • Interest in and experience with social media, especially Twitter and Facebook
  • Interest in and experience in basic design; InDesign experience encouraged
  • Interest in web and user experience
  • Excellent organization and task management capability
  • Ability to handle tasks with minimal supervision
  • Clean communication and reliable follow-through on assignments
  • Strong attention to detail

Valued Skills:

  • Graphic design and/or digital illustration
  • Knowledge of marketing techniques and/or analytics/data
  • Photography and photo editing
  • Experience with various website platforms

 

Hours: 15-30 hours per week preferred, with flexibility. 10 hours per week minimum.
