Development & Special Events Internships

Job Title: Development Internship

Location: Twin Cities Metro     Salary: Unpaid     Type: Internship    

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

Working with the development team, the Development and Special Events Intern will assist with the planning, organization, and implementation of the Human Rights Awards Dinner—The Advocates for Human Rights' largest annual fundraiser. The intern will also assist with various fundraising activities, including assisting with mailings and helping with house parties. Duties include:

  • Solicit silent/live auction items and assist with sorting, pricing, and staging items for the auction
  • Support development and distribution of event materials
  • Assist at the Human Rights Awards Dinner to make sure the event runs smoothly
  • Support general development operations by assisting with mailings, filing, and maintaining records
  • Research development best practices
  • Analyze development trends
  • Work on fundraisers such as house parties and solicitation letters
  • Expand donor base by researching prospective funders (foundations, corporations, and individual donors)
  • Contact donors to update records, extend invitations, and renew support
  • Other duties as assigned

Experience and Qualifications Required:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to present information concisely and effectively, both verbally and in writing
  • Strong organizational, problem-solving, and analytical skills, with excellent follow-through and ability to meet deadlines
  • Acute attention to detail
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated ability to plan and organize projects
  • Ability to manage priorities and workflow
  • Versatility, flexibility, and a willingness to work with changing priorities with enthusiasm
  • Strong computer, research and writing skills
  • Proficient in Word, Excel, and Power Point

Additional Information:

  • Hours: 10-15 hours per week preferred; 10 hours per week minimum, with a flexible schedule
  • The internship will run from Jan/Feb through June 30 (start and end dates flexible)
  • Position open until filled
