The Advocates is pleased to announce a new partnership with Educate the Children International (ETC). ETC is a Nepal-based, non-profit organization that works with women and children to improve health, welfare, and self-sufficiency. The organization will be collaborating with The Advocates at the Sankhu-Palubari Community School by providing administrative and financial oversight. They will also provide The Advocates with expert advice and technical assistance through teacher training, community outreach, and sustainability planning.
The Sankhu-Palubari Community School is located in Sankhu, a small village close to Nepal's capital, Kathmandu. The school, which opened in 1999, currently serves children from pre-kindergarten through tenth grade. In Nepal, public schools require tuition; this makes it difficult for many parents to send their children to school. The Advocates founded the school to provide free education to the neediest children in the community, provide a real alternative to child labor, and encourage gender parity in education.
