United States ―  Human Rights Council Migrant Detention Sept. 2014

The Advocates for Human Rights and Detention Watch Network submitted a joint stakeholder report on detention of migrants to the U.N. Human Rights Council for the United States’ second Universal Periodic Review (UPR).

The stakeholder report identifies several measures that United States must take to comply with its human rights obligations, including:

  • Repealing mandatory detention laws;
  • Providing counsel to all detained migrants;
  • Ending the mandate to fill detention beds.
