Freeheld

For this screening in the 9th Women's Human Rights Film Series, The Advocates and The Friends of The St. Paul Public Library will show the Academy Award winning short documentary film, "Freeheld."

The film chronicles Detective Lieutenant Laurel Hester’s struggle to transfer her earned pension to her domestic partner, Stacie Andree, when she is diagnosed with terminal cancer. With less than six months to live, Laurel refuses to back down when her elected officials – the Ocean County Freeholders – deny her request to leave her pension to Stacie, an automatic option for heterosexual married couples.

Date: Wednesday, October 3
Time: 7:00 p.m.
