Biden Administration Must Act to Prevent Resumption of Remain in Mexico Policy
Document: Coalition Letter to White House - MPP Decision.pdf
Country: United States of America
Issues: Asylum , Migrant Rights
More than 100 organizations around the United States have called on the Biden administration to take all measures necessary to prevent the resumption of the Migrant Protection Protocols (MPP), commonly known as the "Remain in Mexico" policy that has placed thousands of people seeking asylum at risk.
On Friday, August 13, a federal judge in Texas, in a case brought by the States of Texas and Missouri, issued a permanent injunction ordering the Department of Homeland Security to “enforce and implement MPP in good faith” (emphasis in original) for an indefinite period of time.
In a letter to the White House, asylum experts around the country have asked the administration to act immediately to prevent this order from going into effect, up to and including an emergency appeal to the Supreme Court. The Biden Administration should do everything in its power to prevent a return to the inhumane, unlawful, and ineffective policies of the prior administration or any future iterations of these policies, and should swiftly process into the United States all remaining individuals impacted by MPP.
