May 29: CLE on Historical Restriction on Asian Immigration and Lessons Regarding the Current Immigration Debate

The National Asian Pacific American Bar Association of Minnesota is hosting a CLE on historical restrictions on Asian immigration and the current immigration debate featuring Erika Lee, Loan Huynh, and Deepinder Singh Mayell.

May 31: The Minnesota Detention Project - Basics and Beyond

If you are an ongoing volunteer or curious about volunteering with the Minnesota Detention Project, please join Sarah Brenes of The Advocates for Human Rights and Sheila Stuhlman of the Immigrant Law Center of Minnesota for an introductory and advanced training.

May 31: Asylum Information Session

Join Sarah Brenes, The Advocates' Refugee & Immigrant Program staff attorney, to learn more about asylum law, taking on a case, how to find out about available cases, the timeline of a typical case, finding and using interpreters, and other topics.

June 19: Introduction to Asylum Law and Practice

This training is targeted at attorneys with minimal to no asylum experience who are willing to represent a client seeking asylum through The Advocates for Human Rights' pro bono program. The training is also a great refresher for attorneys who have represented asylum clients in the past.

The Advocates staff will provide an introduction to asylum law and procedure and will review the necessary documentary evidence needed to file an asylum application. The staff will also provide tips and advice regarding representation of low income asylum seekers.

 

 

July 10: Digging on a Dime: Asylum Research for Pro Bono Attorneys
