Since 1992, The Advocates for Human Rights has worked with hundreds of teachers to educate thousands of students in K-12 schools and colleges throughout the United States. Through human rights education, HRE, students are not only introduced to human rights but empowered to take action on issues.
The Advocates' partners with schools and provides training and support to administrators, teachers, students, and parents on how to incorporate human rights education into the existing school curriculum. International human rights principles are introduced to students to help them understand and appreciate common human values, encourage them to apply international standards to their own lives, and support their efforts to confront human rights violations in their own communities.
If you are an educator or student and you would like to begin introducing human rights to your class, school, or after-school program please contact Kathy Seipp at kseipp@advrights.org. If you need ideas about how to connect the principles of human rights education into service learning, literature, the arts, or any other subject areas please send us an email!
Check out our new resource! Challenge the Media. This free handout is for educators to teach about media stereotypes and includes a lesson on how we can all speak out against the toxic nature of mainstream media. For the student handout, please open the link at the bottom of this page.
