• Get the facts. Learn more about human rights issues in the U.S. Read the Discover Human Rights Fact Sheets at our Discover Human Rights Institute website. 
• Stay informed. Sign up to receive The Advocates' updates and action alerts by joining our listerv. 
• Donate to the cause. It's people like you who make our work possible. Make a contribution today by supporting us here. 
• Send an email. Send an e-mail to your elected official expressing your views on current legislation. The Advocates' action alerts will provide you with the human rights policy issues. 
• Join the online movement to defend human rights. Follow The Advocates through social media:

If you have a few hours:

• Write a letter to your editor or legislator. Research and write a personal letter to the editor of your local news media or to your elected officials about a human rights issue. Find your legislator here. 
• Vote for politicians who are human rights advocates. Exercise your right to vote and support local, state, and national legislators who advocate for human rights. Even if you can't vote, you can campaign for a candidate who supports human rights. Find your legislators here. 
• Watch a film and discuss. Watch a film that addresses a human rights issue. Attend one of the screenings of the women's human rights film series presented by The Advocates for Human Rights and the Friends of the St. Paul Public Libraries. 
• Educate yourself and others. Ask The Advocates for Human Rights to give presentation at your school, church, or community organization. You can also download free resources on human rights at our Discover Human Rights Institute's website. 

If you have a month or more:

• Join The Advocates' Human Rights Book Club. The Book Club will be meeting every month to discuss books with human rights themes. Check out our calendar for upcoming meetings. 
• Host a fundraser. Host a house party or other fundraiser for The Advocates. House parties are a great way to support The Advocates and introduce new people to our work and approach. 
• Volunteer your time and efforts. The Advocates for Human Rights is a volunteer-based organization. As such, it relies upon hundreds of volunteers – teachers, lawyers, artists, students, doctors, and community leaders – who generously share their time, energy, and expertise each year. Volunteers often tell us that “this is the most important work I do.” Find out how you can offer your time and expertise to give others human dignity, respect, and the rights granted to them by the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

Partner with us

The Advocates is a nonprofit organization that works to support opportunities for public engagement on issues affecting human rights; promotes nonpartisan efforts to encourage participation in policy making to support implementation of human rights; and provides and supports public forums for discussion about the potential and real effects of policies on human rights.
