Human Rights Lesson Plans

These lesson plans, organized by grade to ensure age-appropriateness, can be used to introduce human rights topics into the classroom. Focused on participatory learning, the lessons will engage students as well as introduce issues such as diversity, immigration, stereotypes, and the obstacles to an adequate standard of living in the United States.

Lesson Plans for Grades K-2

These lessons focus on general human rights and immigration.

Lesson Plans for Grades 3-5

These lessons focus on general human rights, taught  through a fun writing activity, gender stereotypes and the media, and immigration. 

Lesson Plans for Grades 6-8

These lessons include general human rights and responsibilities, the UDHR, rights of persons with disabilities, gender stereotyping, and immigration.

Lesson Plans for Grades 9-12

These lessons include the right to education, the right to housing, the right to healthcare, the right to food, the rights of migrants in the media, and the rights of women.
