Case #25-0089167

Case number # 25-0089167

Type of Case: Affirmative Asylum

Language/interpretation needs: English

OYD: Filed on 02/04/2024

AT, an Anglophone woman from Cameroon, volunteered with the Human Rights Defense Group beginning summer 2023, documenting violence related to the Anglophone crisis through interviews, photos, and videos. About a month later, she was arrested, tortured, and detained for 11 days by government security officials after they found documentation of abuses on her phone. She was released only after a family member paid a bribe. After fleeing into hiding, authorities repeatedly searched for her, raided her family home and the organization’s office, tortured her relatives, and detained her mother for four days. She remains at risk due to continued efforts by security forces to locate her.

Theory of the Case: Fear of future persecution by government actors on account of political opinion.

Commitment: Review of I-589 application, Interview; Work permit (initial and renewals)
Experience level/case team size recommended: Appropriate for any experience level and team size
