Human Rights Training and Technical Assistance Intern

This internship is designed for undergraduate and graduate students with an interest in expanding The Advocates’ portfolio of training and technical assistance resources. The Advocates provides training to partner organizations, human rights defenders, pro bono attorneys, educators, volunteers, and the general public. We train on all our areas of work, including representing asylum seekers, ending gender-based violence, advocating at the United Nations and other international bodies, combating human trafficking, educating about human rights, and applying human rights to social justice causes. The training team also develops internal trainings for staff to improve understanding and use of shared tools, office procedures, and methodologies.
Primary duties and responsibilities may include:
- In-depth research and writing to assist with the development of training content on a variety of human rights topics
- Creation of training media, including graphics, videos, and online content
- User testing and evaluation of training materials
- Managing recruitment and enrollment in training courses
Required experience and qualifications
- Excellent writing and organizational skills
- Interest in human rights issues
- Problem-solving skills
- Self-starter
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Sensitivity to diverse cultures
Additional skills of interest
- Experience in curricular or instructional design
- Experience with graphic design, video production, or web design
- Experience with evaluation, user testing, or market research
