Mr. E.B is a Mexican national seeking asylum. Due to his role investigating highway robberies and drug trafficking in Veracruz, he became a target of powerful drug cartels and corrupt police and military officials, facing threats, physical violence, and the risk of forced disappearance or death. While leading a special anti-drug division, Mr. G reported cartel activity to a national agency, which triggered a raid that was ultimately corrupted by officials who stole the seized drugs. After a new supervisor dismantled his unit, Mr. E.B was falsely accused of collaborating with cartels and was violently attacked, sustaining facial injuries and being warned to leave the police forces or the country. He fled to the U.S. for safety. Of the five officers on his former team, three have disappeared, one was beheaded, and one fled to Europe—demonstrating the severe and ongoing risk he faces if returned to Mexico.
