Case Summary: Mr. QL is an indigenous man from Ecuador. In the summer of 2023, he began promoting the campaign of Fernando Villavicencio. He liked Villavicencio because he supported the rights of indigenous people and vowed to combat the gangs’ control of the country. One day at work, Mr. QL was kidnapped by Los Choneros gang members. They made fun of him for being indigenous, and they threatened to kill him if he continued to support Villavicencio. They tied his hands and feet together before beating him with pistols and machetes. After he recovered from his injuries, he went to the police, who told him there was nothing they could do. After this, he fled Ecuador to seek protection in the U.S.
