What is the Minnesota Truth Council?
What is the Minnesota Truth Council?
The Minnesota Truth Council is an independent, non-partisan body that will create a historical record of survivor and witness experiences from Operation PARRIS and Operation Metro Surge.
What will the council do?
The council will listen to, document, and collect stories and testimony from people who were affected during the surge, including those who suffered physical, psychological, familial, economic, and civic harm. The council will also collect stories about how Minnesotans banded together to protect and support their neighbors and communities.
From these stories, the council will produce and publish a report that will also provide legislative and policy recommendations.
Who can participate?
Anyone who was affected by the surge and/or participated in the community response, including:
- Immigrants
- Refugees
- U.S. citizens
- Journalists
- Legal observers
- Any other community members
Participation is voluntary. People can choose to share stories anonymously. You do not need to be currently in Minnesota to participate.
How can you get involved with the council?
- Share a story. Share your individual experience. The Council will use these stories as their primary source of information and analyze them to uncover trends, causes, and impacts of the surge.
- Become a partner. We want to collaborate with other organizations. Your community connections are integral to the process.
- Organize a space. Help others share their stories by fostering community spaces for sharing stories.
- View a public meeting. The 15-member Council will hold at least 4 public meetings that will also be livestreamed.
How is The Advocates involved with the council?
The Advocates for Human Rights is the implementing partner of the Minnesota Truth Council and will be responsible for the story collection. Deputy Director Jennifer Prestholdt will also serve as Vice Chair of the council.
