The Backlash to Human Rights: Strategies and Impact
Wednesday, March 11, 2020 5:30 PM

This presentation will overview the backlash to human rights, including how certain groups have influenced and shaped international law and impacted the dialogue with regards to universal human rights. This includes how those rights are protected, promoted and enforced, with a particular focus on women’s rights and LGBTQ rights. The presentation will address the efforts by certain groups to impede the ratification and implementation of The Council of Europe Convention on preventing and combating violence against women and domestic violence (i.e., Istanbul Convention) in Europe and will address efforts by civil society to counteract the influence of these groups.
