Type: CLE

No one left behind: equality, freedom and justice for all

Date: Wednesday, May 15, 2024

Description: Join The Advocates in commemorating the International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia, and Biphobia (IDAHOBIT) by attending a virtual CLE on the intersection of LGBTIQ+ human rights and asylum law.

In this virtual CLE, The Advocates will be joined by Dan Supalla—an attorney with Nilan Johnson Lewis who has represented LGBTIQ+ asylum seekers pro bono—and his former client from Uganda whose asylum claim was recently approved to discuss the intersection of LGBTIQ+ human rights and asylum law. The CLE will cover the place of LGBTIQ+ human rights in international human rights law, global trends that drive LGBTIQ+ people to seek asylum outside of their home countries, the particular experiences and difficulties of being LGBTIQ+ in the U.S. asylum system, and best practices for lawyers interested in representing LGBTIQ+ asylum clients.

1 Elimination of Bias credit is pending (Event Code: 507554) from the state of Minnesota.
